A young woman not only fought for her life but is now fighting for the award money she deserves after a horrible bus accident. The now 22-year-old woman was struck by a school bus in 2007. She was placed into a medically-induced coma and had her leg amputated due to the serious extent of her injuries.
After a long investigation of the accident, state officials determined that the bus driver accidentally stepped on the gas pedal and drove through a crowd of high school students. Although the bus driver denied all charges against him, the school district admitted blame in the accident just before it went to trial.
Taking this into consideration, a jury determined last week that the woman should be awarded $14 million for the pain, suffering and damages that came as a result of the bus accident. The school district is fighting back by saying that it is not legally obligated to pay anything higher than $500,000.
